HIT THE BEAT 2013 – Performing Art Project
“Hit the Beat – Let’s move it” is an extraordinary performing art project, presented by Waldorf School Windhoek learners and guests, with Dance, Drums, Choir, Theatre and Art.
The development of the performance included three incredible weeks of choir for all high school learners, additional choice of three workshops for grades 10, 11 and 12: Dance, Drumming, Stick fighting, Improvisation Theatre, Visual Arts; Black Light Theatre for grade 9; Visual Arts for grade 8 and finally four performances at Warehouse Theatre. The first rehearsal at Waldorf School Windhoek started End of July 2013.
“HIT THE BEAT – Let‘s move it“ is a powerful presentation which is coherent in itself with all above named elements some which interweave with each other and others that will be individual pieces. The core of the performance is a contemporary choral work (Australia) – with strong connections to the earth – which the learners modify with movement. The dancing choreographies as well as the accompanying percussion and the acting moderation are developed together with the learners as well as with various accompanying instruments.
The learners will develop a different consciousness of their body through daily dancing and movement training. Stability and flexibility as well as coordination will be improved by special exercises that will also help develop stage presence.
Working with choreographies helps to develop creativity and stimulate abilities of memory in general. The acting framework will moderate the show in form of improvisation theatre. By working artistically on this project the learners developing the following key qualities: creativity, courage, teamwork, musicality, and general rhythm.
The performers experience themselves as an artistic unity to strengthen the feeling of a team at the school – the learners will be able to identify with the school with pride.
The team behind the learners are Simone de Picciotto (project leader, choir project, drumming workshop, stick fighting and brooms workshop); Carmen Nothando Voigt (dance and choreography), Luigi Scarano (theatre and improvisation), Caro Krebietke (visual art), Rainer Pinsenschaum (black light theatre), Barbara Stauffer (choir) and Teachers of Waldorf School Windhoek.
Gonzo ’N Friends from Germany offered a special coaching for enthusiastic singers or musicians (drums, keyboard) during the third week of the project. During the performance at the Warehouse Theatre they will be with the learners on stage as “special guests“.
